Long-Haul Flight: Tips and Carry-On Essentials

Long-Haul Flight: Tips and Carry-On Essentials

Every serial traveler is perfectly organized before taking a trip, but when it comes to dealing with long-haul flights, organization is even more important.

In this blog post, our team shares some tips, carry-on essentials and "must haves" for surviving long-haul travel and flying as comfortable as if you were in a 5-star hotel:

1.) Wear your most comfortable outfit

When it comes to long-distance travel, stick to a “comfy-chic” dress code of neutral, loose-fitting layers you can move around in. Don't forget packing a sweater as cabins can get chilly!!

A must for ladies? Your favorite scarf, a stylish accessory and extra layer for beating cabin chills.

2.) Use a good travel pillowcase

For long-distance travel, a pillow is always provided but, but in any " class" we can't necessarily ensure they are crisp and clean. And as we know bacteria can survive up to 180 hours on airplanes, why not bring your own!?

Take Safetravelskit soft-touch, anti-microbial, hypoallergenic and antibacterial travel pillowcase with you.

You'll rest better, rid of that ick and safe from germs and bacteria.

That means: protect skin from unwanted allergens. Do you have sensitive skin or suffer from acne? Travel comfy and clean adding a layer of cleanliness, without the immediate rush to wash your hair upon landing!

 3.) Pack your own headphones

For listening to music or perhaps enjoying a good movie, the headphones provided are not the best;

Thanks to those roaring engines and crying toddlers (we love babies!!) in the next row, you can't void out the noise.

The solution is to bring your own headphones that are even more comfortable than the ones provided!

 4.) Less makeup, more moisturize

Make-up can clog pores and at 30,000, cabin air pressure makes skin dry, brittle  and dehydrated.

Apply a good moisturizer and serum before and during the flight to ensure you stay hydrated throughout the trip!

Also, don't forget an eye drop to combat dry eyes and, of course, a rich lip balm as well.

Hydrate your skin from the inside, too and remember to drink plenty of water during the flight.

Our favorite products chosen for you are:

Lip balm by @clarksbotanicals ,
with hydrating, plumping and anti-aging properties. It nourishes and protects your lips from the effects of aging.

Jasmine oil by @clarksbotanicals:
This innovative and immuno-stimulating botanical infusion serum and oil is perfect to moisturize, nourish and revitalize skin.

Hydraboost HA Serum Pad by @m61skincare :
Serum pads with hyaluronic acid, vitamin B5 & E that helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

 5.) Keep the blood flowing

Get up for a walk at least every couple of hours. This will increase blood flow. It is also helpful to practice some noninvasive exercises in the seat, such as shoulder movement and ankle rotation.

6.) Try to rest and sleep

In order to sleep relaxed and peaceful, turn your seat into a place where you feel comfortable.

Even if you're not provided with a fresh soft sheet in the air, you can still make your own clean bed in the sky!

That's why Safetravelskit has created the only seat cover that fits all types of seats and creates a barrier that lets you rest safe and clean. After all, do we sleep in a hotel without a sheet? Now you can bring your own!

UPGRADE YOUR SEAT!

Our universal seat cover applies quickly and adds a true layer of comfort and serenity to your seat for a peaceful and germ free flight! Don't forget to pop in earplugs and a sleeping mask and you're ready to rest as if you were in the bed of a luxury hotel.

7.) Bring a soft bag that is not too big

On a long-haul flight, you will have to sit for a long time, and every inch is important to be comfortable.

Your personal bag to store under the seat in front of you should be small and soft so that you can keep your legs as relaxed as possible throughout the trip.

Marrakech Pocket Guide

Marrakech Pocket Guide
Marrakech is unique and will take your breath away. It is easily one of the most spectacular cities filled with vibrancy and an exhilaration of all senses.
Marrakech is an atmosphere, it is a state of mind, it is a play of lights and colors, it is bustle in the streets, it is the smell of argan, cous cous and mint.
In this pocket guide to Marrakech, we'll share how to explore and be delighted by all its majesty and wonder!

Getting around Marrakech
In our opinion, the best way to get around Marrakech and outside the the city is surely by cab.
What's great about their drivers is that you can haggle prices with them and you can ask them to be your personal driver for the duration of your stay too!

Where and what to eat in Marrakech
There is one thing we advise all travelers to Marrakech: If you're a "foodie", taste every dish of Moroccan cuisine! Do not be prejudiced, order every typical dish and be surprised by the spices, colors and cooking of each food.

Don't miss:
Yoyale cous cous, lemon chicken tajine with olives, and the Pastilla, a puff pastry pie with chicken, squab or squid inside and almond granules, cinnamon and sugar on the outside
Let's talk about costs: prices are always quite affordable compared to many other top destinations. For a 3 course menu, costs average  from 20 to 35 euros per person.
One of Our favorite restaurant in Marrakech is La Maison Arabe!
Where to stay in Marrakech
Here is one thing we are convinced of! You absolutely must stay in the Medina of Marrakech, inside a Riad.

Here is a list of our favorite Riads:
What to see in Marrakech and other information
Marrakech is a treasure chest of wealth, beauty, history...every corner will be a discovery, a surprise, an enchantment.
However, do not miss these places:
The souk: The typical Arab market where haggling before buying something is a must
Jeema el Fna Square: the chaotic town square where you will find Berber dancers, snake charmers and street vendors
Bahia Palace: considered a masterpiece of traditional Moroccan architecture.

Majorelle Gardens: This garden complex was designed by French artist Jacques Majorelle in 1931, during the colonial period.
The majorelle blue is very famous and even conquered Yves Saint Laurent who purchased it in 1980.

Have we convinced you to visit Marrakech?
Then start packing your bags and don't forget sunscreen, a hat, glasses and...Safetravelskit of course!

A Roman Holiday in 24 hours? Buon Viaggio!

Have you ever been to Rome or dreaming of traveling there soon?

Planning a trip to the eternal city may sound stressful. What to see? What to eat? Where to stay? How can we possibly do it all in just 1 day?! Well, we have the ultimate pocket guide for an itinerary to see Rome in 24 hours! YES, It's possible!

For more dreamy Roman spots, also see our reel on Instagram and follow us too!

Ready to go? Let's start and ANDIAMO!

Wake up early for breakfast and go to a local “bar” of Caffe' near your hotel for a traditional Italian breakfast with espresso or a cappuccino and a croissant (they call them “cornetti.”)

Visit the Colosseum - the world’s symbol of Rome. With only 24 hours, it is best to admire and take photos from the outside. You will nonetheless be wowed by its beauty and grandeur!

Don't miss a stop in Piazza Venezia. About a 20 minute walk away, you will find one of the biggest “hubs” in Rome. This enormous white building is the Monument of Vittorio Emanuele II - also a good photo spot!

If you are feeling hungry, try some Roman takeaway food on the way, as a light lunch or snack. Supplì is a delicious Roman specialty. It is a fried rice ball made with red sauce stuffed with cheese.

According to the STK team the best supplì in Rome is at Supplì Roma.

Walk from Piazza Venezia to the Trevi Fountain!
Throw your coin in the fountain for good luck, make a wish and take some photos. Take in this masterpiece!

Move on to the Pantheon. In about 10 minutes you will reach it by foot from the Trevi fountain. This is a historic Roman Temple - one of the oldest standing buildings in Rome. Entry is free!

In a short walk from the Pantheon, you will find Piazza Navona.
If you are ready for another break for coffee or aperitivo, this is a great spot! Alternatively, if you want to see another famous square, you can go to Campo De’ Fiori and here, during the day you'll find a street market with locals, many amazing Italian delicacies including cheeses, limoncello, balsamic vinegars, and other souvenirs.

When you are ready to move on, walk across the Ponte Sisto bridge into Trastevere. You will see a beautiful view of Vatican City and St. Peter’s Basilica from the bridge.

At this point, you may be ready for something sweet and the famous Tiramisu by Pompi is a MUST!!

Explore the small alleyways and cobblestone streets of the Trastevere neighborhood.

For dinner be sure to try these infamous Pastas: Carbonara, Amatriciana, or Cacio e Pepe - Rome’s traditional pasta dishes!

Here's, a list of our favorite restaurants in Trastevere:

Nannarella

Impiccetta

Tonnarello

Where to stay in Rome

For this 24-hour tour of Rome, location of the hotel is really very important for convenience.
Here are the hotels we recommend:

Hotel Eden

From the Dorchester Collection, this luxury hotel located on Via Veneto has 98 elegant rooms with Murano chandeliers and marble bathrooms.

J.k. Place

Just a 10-minute walk from the Spanish Steps, the J.k. Place was conceived by the brilliant mind of Italian architect and interior decorator Michele Bönan.

Palazzo Dama

Palazzo Dama is a large villa with about 30 rooms and suites, minimal and modern.
The swimming pool is the main element that makes this hotel special (in Rome the hotels with swimming pool are a rarity)

Portrait Roma – Lungarno Collection

This hotel, in Via Condotti, belongs to the Ferragamo Family and it is really an exclusive place: there is no sign and it only has 14 rooms.
It also has a beautiful rooftop terrace with fireplace from which to observe all of Rome.

Extra Tip for you

If you only have 24 hours, an alternative way to visit Rome is to board the City Sightseeing Bus! Buy tickets on their website and let yourself be fascinated by the Eternal City and its timeless beauty.

Flying with a baby under 2 without stress? Read on!
Flying with a baby under 2 might seem really difficult but it's not impossible.
We'd love to share some suggestions on  how to organize yourself to limit stress for you and your little ones from take-off to landing.

  1. Prepare your child and talk about flying to make the trip exciting! It's important to talk about the trip and the destination with your children because when they confront the trip, the familiarity will be reassuring to them;

  2. Take advantage of early boarding. When they make the call for travelers who need extra time to board, use the time to stash bags where you want them before the overhead bins fill up;

Flying with a baby under 2 without stress

  3. Be ready when you get to security. Your stroller or car seat will have to go through the x-ray machine, so get all of your kids' stuff out early.
    Remember to have your children wear shoes that are comfortable and maybe without laces;

  4. Take a change of clothes, wet wipes and important toys such as a favourite teddy bear to make the plane ride more cosy;

Flying with a baby under 2 without stress

  5. Pack some healthy snacks and crackers, as well as plenty of water: in fact swallowing will help to equalise the pressure and make them feel better if your baby has ear pain;

  6. Keep your child warm, cozy, comfortable and clean, especially if your baby has allergies or sensitive skin.

The 4 Dreamiest Towns Along the Amalfi Coast

The 4 Dreamiest Towns Along the Amalfi Coast

With miles and miles of zig-zagging cliffs dramatically dropping into the emerald blue waters below, the stretch of scenery from the Gulf of Naples to the Gulf of Salerno (also known as the Amalfi Coast), is a mythical destination welcoming millions of travelers each year.

The best time to visit the Amalfi Coast is during the summer and early fall months. The sea temperatures are warm as explorers from all across the world make the trek to the seaside towns to cliff jump, enjoy traditional Italian food and fresh seafood, and take in some of the world’s most spectacular views.

Any time of year, however, travelers discover that getting to the Amalfi Coast takes more research and planning than other destinations due to its location as well as the number of things to do and see in the region. From scenic trails like Path of Gods, to stunning beaches such as Fornillo, the Amalfi Coast has something for solo travelers, traveling couples, and families alike.

Safe Travels Kit

Here at Safe Travels Kit, we’ve reviewed more than 15 years of traveling through Italy to compile our top recommendations on the best towns to visit, where to eat, stay, and relax in the dreamy Almalfi Coast region. Read below to help plan your next adventure:

1. Positano

The colourful and picturesque seaside town of Positano is the most famous of the towns along the Amalfi Coast, and for good reason. While there is public transportation (a bus system), and the option to rent scooters, using Positano as a base for a vacation to the Amalfi Coast means easy access to ferry boats that run between each of the towns on the coast daily, which are a very cheap option for transportation. Speaking of transportation, a cruise down the popular Amalfi Drive to take in the views is a must.

Safe Travels Kit

For favorite activities, the Positano Spiaggia is one of the most popular beaches in the town known for it’s colourful umbrellas and turquoise blue waters. Learn to make two of Italy’s most famous cuisines (pizza and tiramisu) in the private home of a local, or try some of the region’s most famous wines at Swirl the Glass.

For a day trip, book a tour to visit the impressive archeological site of Pompeii and Mt. Vesuvius itself. Explore the ruins, visit the baths, and make sure to stop at some out-of-town villas close by.

Safe Travels Kit

Lodging is Positano is a no-brainer. With plenty of private bed and breakfasts, boutique hotels, and resorts, you would be hard pressed to find a location that didn’t have a beautiful view. However, the best hotel to lay your head after a busy day of exploring, is no doubt the Albergo Miramare Positano. Only 350 feet from the centre of town, and 200 feet from the beach, the possibilities for relaxation and exploration are endless.

2. Amalfi

The namesake of the Amalfi Coastline, this city was once home to a celebrated paper-making industry. While today it thrives on a bustling tourism industry, it is a quick day trip from Positano (your home base for your time at the Amalfi Coast, remember?)

First, hop on the ferry at Positano and take the 30-minute trip over to Amalfi. Make sure you get there on the first ferry out as Amalfi can get extremely crowded, especially during the peak summer months.

Make your way to the main square, Piazza del Duomo, first. Admire the striped cathedral and its magnificent bronze doors before making your way into the back streets to wander for a while. Stop for a famous lemon-cream cake (delizie al limone) at Pasticceria Panza, and learn more about the Amalfi Coast’s tradition of handcrafted papers at the famous stationery shop, La Scuderia del Duca.

For the best view at the Amalfi Coast's hippest meeting place, stop into Franco's Bar, followed by lunch at a beach nearby via boat service provided by Da Adolfo. Boats leave daily at both 10AM and PM, with return service from 4PM onward.

 Safe Travels Kit

If pretty pastels and white sand beaches are more your preference, following the walking path to the fishing town of Atrani nearby, also known as the smallest community in Italy. It spans only .08 miles, making it easily walkable. Before getting back on your ferry to Positano, make sure to grab a lunch at A’ Pranza. The octopus and calamari are solid choices.

Safe Travels Kit

3. Capri

A short 45-minute ferry will take you out to the stylish island of Capri. The ferry here is, in our opinion, one of the most stunning boat rides on the Amalfi Coast. Immediately upon setting foot on the island, the colourful vintage cars will surely catch your eye. Follow the signs up to Capri town and promptly buy a lemon granita from the stand in the square for a cool, refreshing snack. For a more filling dining experience, stroll into Da Paolino -- a charming restaurant known for its stunning decor and traditional Neapolitan menu.

Safe Travels Kit

You’ll want to take in the best views possible on Capri (and there are no shortages of them!), so catch an open-air taxi up to Anacapri, and take the Monte Solaro chairlift (pictured below) to the top of the mountain. Here, you’ll discover fantastic views across the island and down the Sorrento peninsula.

 Safe Travels Kit

In the afternoon, take a gozzo boat tour around the island, or lounge Slim Aarons-style at La Fontelina Beach Club, which is known as one of the most beautiful beach clubs in all of Italy. It’s been in operation for more than 50 years and serves some of the freshest seafood on the island.

Safe Travels Kit

4. Sorrento

While most visitors simply pass through Sorrento on their way to Positano or Capri, it’s a beautiful and charming town that absolutely can’t be missed. You can access Sorrento via the 40-minute ferry from Positano, via rail, or by car.

Safe Travels Kit

Known to be slightly more metropolitan than other towns along the coast, Sorrento has a number of unique restaurants and activities to partake in that may not be found in other villages. The most popular spot in the town is the town square, known as Piazza Tasso. Here, visitors can find a number of cafes, including  D’Anton, which is an interior design and decor shop turned cocktail lounge.

Safe Travels Kit

After spending some time sipping, snacking, and people watching, meander through the maze of narrow back streets in Old Sorrento, where you'll pass by beautiful private homes, artisans' shops, luxury hotels, and street food vendors. Don’t pass up fresh limoncello gelato and fries Queen's Chips (trust us on this one!)

For lodging, there's no shortage of quality options. You can book a stay at the luxe Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria, the paradise of Conca Del Songo, or Lo Scoglio for the freshest local cuisine. Grab a glass of bubbly at their vine-covered champagne bar La Pergola, followed by adinner at Ristorante Donna Sofia (named for Sofia Loren). Stick around and enjoy one of Sorrento’s breathtaking sunsets, and take a 25 minute taxi-ride back to Positano (the ferry’s don’t operate at night).

Safe Travels Kit

When to Visit Amalfi Coast

While Italy is beautiful year round, the best time to visit the Amalfi Coast for the best weather, most affordable lodging prices, cheaper flights, and less tourist crowds, is most certainly spring and fall (May and September). Temperatures are the most comfortable during this time with highs in the mid-70’s.

Just 30 minutes from the Panama City Beach Airport, the rental property has a full kitchen, free parking, a full rooftop deck, and access to a private pool and a private beach across the street. The sunny space is also dog and kid-friendly, and boasts an open concept first-floor with plenty of room to cook, laugh, play, drink wine, or unwind.

Throughout the house, guests can find six large flat screen TV’s that tout Netflix, Hulu, Disney +, and ESPN. In the game room lounge upstairs is a giant bean bag, a wet bar, and mini-kitchen with microwave, mini-fridge, and a large bank of board games.

Yourcation Awaits

A free coffee bar is also available in the downstairs kitchen and third floor kitchenette, making watching the beautiful sunrises and sunsets from the houses numerous porches and rooftop the ultimate dream.

Where to Eat

1. Chiringo

Hop in the rental car and head towards Grayson Beach to find the beachside gem called Chiringo that serves Spanish-style dishes, fresh seafood, and handmade cocktails.

Featuring only the freshest saltwater staples and product, guests can dine inside or on the open air rooftop to enjoy beautiful Gulf views.

While it is best to go at sunset, reservations can be made for any time Chiringo’s is open. Recommended menu items include the ‘Snapper Fish Spread,’ the ‘Fried Gulf Shrimp Basket,’ and the luxe ‘Lobster Roll’ served on a toasted brioche bun with fresh lemon.

2. La Crema Tapas & Chocolate

Located across the street from The Pearl Hotel in downtown Rosemary Beach, La Crema Tapas & Chocolate provides a unique experience for diners wishing to try authentic Spanish cuisines.

This bright, cozy cafe offers small plates, chocolate confections, homemade sangria, and other craft cocktails.

Rosemary Beach 5

There is an outdoor dining area street side that is perfect for people watching (especially with a cold sangria in hand), but the restaurant doesn’t take reservations, so make sure you get there early to snag a prime spot.

Recommended menu items to order include the ‘Seafood Paella’, the ‘Cheese Fondue with Crudites’, and a glass of red sangria.

3. The Pearl

One of the most popular — and stunning — hotels in the Rosemary Beach area, The Pearl Hotel, is a vibrant, luxury hotel located in downtown Rosemary Beach. Resembling architecture one would find in the South of France, The Pearl features an art gallery, an award-winning spa, and an AAA Four-Diamond restaurant, Havana beach Bar & Grill.

The Pearl Hotel

Guests can dine at the restaurant in a number of ways (and all of them are good choices!) The main dining room has live piano music nightly, the veranda has full views of the Gulf and Main Street, the rooftop is the perfect place for sunset, and the lounge is a great place to meet friends for a cocktail.

Food served here is farm-to-table and features a fusion of cuisine from the Texas, Louisiana, and Cuban, and Mexican cultures.

4. Modica Market

A short drive down the road from the Yourcation Awaits property, sits a hidden gem tucked away in Seaside, Florida: the Modica Market grocery store.

An eclectic mix of global and local cuisines, plus libations and cooking essentials, Modica Market is a can’t miss spot if you find yourself in 30A. This isn’t your typical grocery store, however.

Located in the middle of the store is a bar that serves fresh cut meats, homemade side dishes, and our personal favorite: jumbo mimosas to-go! Filled with fresh fruit, champagne, and Florida orange juice, a small is $8 and a large is $12.

Pro tip: A few short steps from Modica Market, one can also find The Great Southern Cafe. Here, they serve the most unique and prettiest cocktails to go! We recommend the “Cocolada” with fat free vanilla ice-cream, dark rum, pineapple rum, and coconut milk with a side of oysters on the half shell.

Where to Play

1. Seacrest Beach

An upscale, private beach located down the road from Aly’s, Seacrest Beach is a spot for endless relaxation.

Boasting sugar white sand and turquoise waters, a morning spent on Seacrest Beach is a morning well spent.

30A Beaches

Even better, the beach is home to a local grocery store, Seacrest Sundries, and a popular bike trail called Timpoochee Trail (the perfect place to ride your bike from Peddlers 30A). There is a private pool located at High Pointe Resort, with two more pools located at The Villas at Seacrest which are the two largest pools in the area.

Since the beach is private, access can be rather difficult. However, if you stay at the Yourcation Awaits property, entrance to the beach and multiple pools is included in the price of the stay.

 2. Peddlers 30A Bike Rentals

Known as the largest bike rental company in Rosemary Beach, Peddlers 30A is more than just a place to rent bikes.

Aly's Beach

The bike Pavillion, which is located in Seacrest, also features a fun bar called Peddlers Pub, where you can grab a cold drink on a hot Florida day. The location recently opened up a full-service sit-down bar and restaurant called Kickstand that plays live music nightly during the summer. There are also fun local shops selling unique art and beauty products in the Pavilion a short walk away.

Bike rentals run between $30 to $40 depending on the type of bike.

3. Camp Helen State Park

Less than five minutes drive from the Yourcation Awaits property, Camp Helen State Park is a oceanside playground perfect for spending a day outdoors.

Camp Helen State Park Florida

Using the honor system to pay an entrance fee of your choice (recommended $4 minimum), Camp Helen is a 183-acre park where people can walk, bike, beach comb, bird watch, or hike!

Camp Helen State Park

It’s a mile walk through sand from the parking lot to the beach, but the views (and the shell harvesting!) is well worth the work out.

This spot can get crowded especially in the summer, so it is best to arrive to the park when it opens at 8am. The entrance fee is good for the entire day, and you can stay until the park closes. It’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places, so it is an absolute must-see when visiting the 30A area.

When to Visit 30A

While 30A is beautiful year-round, the best month to plan a visit is in the month of October. The tourist crowds are gone, and the weather is still amazing with the water of the Gulf still being warm enough for swimming.

This month, adult visitors can also enjoy one of the state's largest and chicest costume parties at the posh Aly's Beach. Attendees go all out in beautiful attire and dance until the morning hours.

Fly Away with STK

While the last year and a half have been uncertain and less than ideal for everyone, recent reports have shown a glimmer of hope on the horizon for the future of the travel and hospitality industry. In fact, a recent consumer survey from VRBO, the American vacation rental online marketplace, 82 percent of families have a trip planned for 2021, while 65 percent of travelers overall said they had more plans to travel in 2021 than they did in previous years.
